Green Emporium Restaurant/Gallery opened its doors on
June 9, 1994. We called ourselves an Emporium because we wanted to offer more
than food, which set us apart from other restaurants in Western Massachusetts.
We started out with an empty former church meetinghouse (circa 1834) and lots
of big ideas. We began with a small kitchen and dining area, and filled the rest
of the building (as much as we could) with local food products and crafts.
As the restaurant grew and became more popular, the local products had to
become less visible. But we never forgot the many wonderful resources available
to us in this creative area where we live. As we have from the beginning, we continue
to use them in our restaurant today.
After nearly a decade of being in business, having been featured in Bon Appetite,
Self, Yankee Magazine, to name a few, as well as the Boston Globe, the New York
Times, local newspapers, and numerous radio and television shows, the Green Emporium
continues to be a leading creative source of culinary excitement and adventure.
We coined a phrase "Country Fusion Cuisine" to describe our food, and were
the innovators of events highlighting area food products, which preceded the "Local
Heroes" campaign, which supports the use of local produce today.
We're in our eighth year of participation in the annual Cider Days Festival,
which takes place during the first week in November, and was featured by Martha
Stewart and Savor magazines last year.
Our Annual Lavender Culinary Event began four years
ago, when we added a month of cooking with lavender
and herbs to our collection of events at the restaurant.
This year's event, Lavender Lovers 2002, will kick off
on June 29 & 30, and will continue throughout the month
of July, 2002. We've designed this event to coincide
with the Franklin County Lavender Tour, so that more
Lavender Lovers can enjoy our restaurant. During this
month, people will come from near and far to participate
in our demos, sample our lavender-based lunches, delight
in our lavender dinners and tour our beautiful native
garden. Now, they can take our line of lavender products
home with them, as well as other exciting lavender items
produced by local farmers, food artisans and crafters.
All these products and lots more are now available on
this site.
New items are constantly being added so
bookmark our site and return often. You can contact
us directly if you are interested in custom items.
